GroovyTouch Touch Screen Installation Guide ================================================= June 30 2006 Welcome to the touch word with the most premium touch screens. This guide will provide brief information and assistance for the following : a. Touch screen kit checklist b. Hardware installation c. Software driver installation d. Notes a. Touch screen kit checklist ------------------------------ The touch screen kits should include the following components : 1. Touch screen sensor 2. Touch screen controller (serial or PS2) 3. Rubber pads (only for CRT monitor models) 4. Drivers CD (this CD) 5. User's Guide b. Hardware installation ------------------------ Please refer to the installation sections in "User's Guide" to install the screen sensor and connect the controller to the PC system. There are two kinds of touch screen controllers, serial and PS2 types. The serial controller needs to be connected to a serial port on the PC and the PS2 controller needs to be connected to the PS2 mouse port. The black ground wire attached to the cable from the controller to the sensor has to be connected to the metal part of the monitor. It is used to shunt the static charge induced to the screen sensor at power up. Otherwise, it may cause the controller to get damaged. Please make sure that the touch screen has been installed and connected properly before turning the power on and proceed to next steps. c. Software driver installation ------------------------------- This CD contains all the available drivers for the following touch screen controllers : 1. GT-C4RS-xx : Serial controller (4 wire) 2. GT-C4RP-xx : PS2 controller (4 wire) 3. GT-C5RS-xx : Serial controller (5 wire) 4. GT-C5RP-xx : PS2 controller (5 wire) c-1. AUTORUN for windows : -------------------------- For windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Server2003, this CD supports AUTORUN for installing the touch screen drivers. It needs to identify and select the controller types on the AUTORUN main screen. The touch driver will then be installed directly. If the installation could not be finished successfully with AUTORUN, please follow the steps below. c-2. Manual Installation steps : -------------------------------- c-2.1 Identify controller type : -------------------------------- The controller type could be identified from the sticker on the back of the controller box directly. c-2.2 Select the directory under CD root : ------------------------------------------ With the controller type, select the directory that contains subdirectories for all the supported OS from the root directory of this CD. Controller_type Directory ---------------------------------------- GT-C4RS-xx GT-C4RS.COM GT-C4RP-xx GT-C4RP.PS2 GT-C5RS-xx GT-C5RS.COM GT-C5RP-xx GT-C5RP.PS2 c-2.3 Select the subdirectory for OS : -------------------------------------- Under each directory, there are subdirectories that contain the drivers for all the supported OS. OS Subdirectory ----------------------------------------- DOS DOS Windows 3.1 WIN31 Windows 95 Rev B WIN95 Windows 98 WIN98 Windows ME WINME Windows NT4.0 WINNT Windows 2000 WIN2000 Windows XP WINXP Windows XP Embedded WINXPEMBEDDED Windows Server2003 WIN2003 Linux LINUX c-2.4 Run installation program : -------------------------------- Run "Intall.com" For DOS and "Setup.exe" for Windows. Read "Installation notes" in the subdirectory first for Linux. Please refer to the following sections and the User's guide for the details. c-3. DOS Driver Installation : Installation command : > install x: x: --> the destination drive e.g. "c:" for hard disk c. Load/Unload Driver : Use "m.bat" to load the driver if it is not loaded, and to unload the driver if it is loaded. Touch screen Control Panel : Use "s.bat" to run Touch Screen Control Panel for setting up the touch screen. Serial Port Configuration : Use "c.bat" to configure the serial ports. Please refer to the User's guide for the details. c-4. Windows 3.1 Driver Installation : Installation : It is suggested to copy the driver to diskettes by "DISK1.BAT/DISK2.BAT" and then install the driver from the diskettes by "setup.exe". Touch Screen Control Panel : Run Touch Screen control panel to configure the touch screen. Uninstall Touch Screen Driver : The touch screen driver could be removed from the windows by running "Uninstall Touchscreen x.xx". Please refer to the User's guide for the details. c-5. Windows Driver (95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP/2003) Installation : Installation : Run "setup.exe" and follow the instruction to install. Touch Screen Control Panel : Run Touch Screen Control Panel to configure the touch screen. Uninstall Touch Screen Driver : The touch screen driver could be removed from the windows by running "Touchscreen uninstaller". Please refer to the User's guide for the details. c-6. Linux Installation : . Check the driver availability for the linux systems. There is a list of the tested status for the linux systems supported by the driver in the file (gtxxx-2.0.x-testreport&resolution.pdf). The file also includes workaround steps for some versions of linux systems. . Read the readme file (gtxxx-2.0.x-readme.pdf) for the installation procedures. d. Notes : ---------- d-1. Precautions for screen sensor : . Basically, the screen sensor is fragile and has to be handled carefully. . Do not stack the screen sensors. . Do not just hold the flexible cable (tail) for the sensor. . The bus bar area around the edges is the most fragile part. Any pressure or tests on the area should be avoided. . Do not turn on the power with just the sensor installed. The controller and the black ground wire should be connected properly for shunting the static charges induced at power on. . The screen sensors should be cleaned with ethanol. d-2. Direction of sensor positioning and tail connection : For DOS, win 31/95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, the drivers support multiple direction for sensor positioning and tail connection. The sensor could be positioned in any direction and the cable from the controller could be connected to the tail in either direction. The touch screen should work after calibration. d-3. Administrative privilege : For NT series, the drivers could only be installed by the users with administrative privilege. d-4. Calibration : The calibration has to be done right after the touch screen driver is installed. The touch point and the cursor may not be consistent if the touch screen has not been calibrated. Normally, do calibration with the default "4 points, Mode 2" mode. Mode 1 could be used for some specific sensors which could not work with mode 2.
